About The College

“Cultivating Virtue, Valuing Culture and Pursuing Excellence”, the School of Chinese Language and Literature has been in continuous development ever since 1950, when its predecessor -- Department of Chinese -- one of the earliest academic unit of Shandong Normal University was set up. It was one of earliest departments to recruit graduate students (in 1955) and to confer master’s degree (in 1981). It was designated as a Key Provincial-level Department in 1986. It was one of the firstin Liberal Arts in Shandong Province authorized for granting doctoral degree(in 1998), one of thefirst approved to set up Post-doctoral Research Stationin Chinese Language and Literature(in 2005), and one of the earliest First-Level Disciplinary authorized to confer doctoral degree in the (in 2006). In 2016,this School’s Discipline of Chinese Language and Literature was selected into“The First-class Disciplines in Shandong Province”, and got “B+” in the fourth National Discipline-Ranking Assessment (2017) , ranking 15th out of 148 universities and 5th out of Normal Universities in the country.In 2020, it was recognized as a “Priority Discipline”among the“High-level Disciplines” in Shandong Province.

The School of Chinese Language and Literature has bee nauthorized to grant doctoral degree andmaster's degree, and has a post-doctorate research program in the Grand Discipline of Chinese Language and Literature. There is one national-level Key Discipline,two provincial-level Key Specialty-disciplines,one provincial-level Specialty Discipline and two university-level Key Disciplines in the School.“Chinese Language and Literature” and “Chinese Language” are two national-level First-class Undergraduate Majors. The school also provides12 doctorate programs,10 academic master’s degree programs and two professional master’s degree programs. The 12 doctorate programs cover majors in Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature,Literary Studies, Ancient Chinese Literature, Chinese Philology, Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, Comparative Literature and World Literature, Chinese Classical Philology, Curriculum and Teaching Methodology(Chinese Language), Literature and Chinese-Language Education, Literature and Film-and-TV Art, Regional Culture and Ancient Chinese literature,and Literature and Cultural-Industry Studies.

Up to now, the School of Chinese Language and Literature has 127 faculty members, including 23 Doctoral Supervisors, 75 Master Supervisors, 30 Professors, 37 Associate Professors,one leading member of the National 10,000 Talents Plan,one National Outstanding Teacher and one Provincial Outstanding Teacher,three Specialists receiving Special-Government-Allowances,two National Model Teachers,three Vice-presidents of first-level national academic associations,eight Top Professional and Technical Talents,two Provincial Young-and-Middle-Aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions,one Qilu Cultural Experts, and three Qilu Cultural Talents.
